Dale C. S. Destin – Published 09 May 2025, Updated 10 May 2025: The first week of May has soaked much of Antigua in a deluge not seen in over a decade, delivering rainfall nearly matching the entire month’s average in just seven days.

At the V. C. Bird International Airport (VCBIA), a staggering 79.5 mm (3.13 in) of rain fell between May 1–7, amounting to 89% of the usual monthly total of 89.4 mm (3.52 in).
Islandwide, the estimated average was 3.51 inches, or 88% of the typical May rainfall.

This makes it the wettest start to May since 2013, when 129.8 mm (5.11 in) fell during the same period, and the third wettest May 1–7 on record at VCBIA, just behind 2013 and 2012 (121.9 mm or 4.80 in).
Impressively, this first week alone has outperformed more than half of the 97 full-month May totals on record.

In some coastal areas, preliminary data suggest that more than a full month’s worth of rain or more may have already fallen.
At VCBIA, the first seven days of May normally account for just 20.7 mm (0.82 in) or 23% of the month’s total, so rainfall has been nearly four times higher than average for this early stretch.
