Dale C. S. Destin – On March 20, 2025, Antigua and Barbuda will join countries across the Caribbean and adjacent regions in the CARIBE WAVE 2025 Tsunami Exercise.

This annual drill, organised by the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG/CARIBE EWS) under UNESCO-IOC, is designed to test and improve tsunami preparedness efforts.

Understanding the Tsunami Threat
Tsunamis are a series of powerful waves caused by underwater disturbances such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides or meteorite impacts.

However, earthquakes are the most common cause, particularly those occurring in subduction zones, where one tectonic plate is forced under another.
