ABS Television/Radio: A one-year-old child has died in hospital after reportedly falling into a cistern at a home in New Winthorpes on Wednesday 15th January, 2025.
Police reports say the mother and the child were at the home close to where they reside when the incident happened. The mother reported that the child fell into the cistern, which is in the area of the porch of the house.
The mother said she started searching frantically when she did not see the child and then discovered her in the shallow water of the cistern. The child was rushed to the hospital shortly after midday, where she was pronounced dead.
The incident has left a pall of grief over the community. Police are interviewing the mother as their investigations into the tragic incident intensify.
