Antigua and Barbuda has taken another major step toward becoming a more secure and resilient digital nation with the official launch of the Antigua and Barbuda Government Cyber Incident Response Team (AB govCIRT).

The Cybersecurity Department officially launched AB govCIRT on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Sir John E. St. Luce Conference Centre, bringing together representatives from the Law Enforcement Agencies including the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, ONDCP, officials from across other government agencies, to include the Budget Office, Ministry of Finance and Foreign Affairs, IT staff from the Airport Authority and Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, private-sector partners such as the internet service providers.

Director of the Cybersecurity Department, Mrs. Gordina Hector-Murrell, described the establishment of the CIRT as a must for security in cyberspace, noting that although the journey has been long, the work now begins with AB govCIRT serving as a central point for strengthening the security of Government’s digital assets through monitoring and coordinated response.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICTs, Utilities and Energy, Ms. Olivette Williams, highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of trust as Antigua and Barbuda continues to expand its digital services.

Officially launching AB govCIRT, Minister Melford Nicholas emphasized that cybersecurity must be treated as a fundamental reality of modern government.

“Cybersecurity must be treated as a fundamental reality to improve the response to crisis and to become a more resilient government and a more secure nation.”

Under the leadership of Mrs. Hector-Murrell, AB govCIRT will play a key role in responding to cybersecurity incidents, strengthening monitoring and threat detection, supporting cybersecurity training and helping Government entities build stronger cyber resilience.

As part of the ceremony, Minister Nicholas and Mrs. Hector-Murrell unveiled the official AB govCIRT banner, while Minister Nicholas was presented with a commemorative plaque featuring the official CIRT logo. Prepared. Responsive. Resilient.

AB govCIRT is being funded by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda signaling its commitment in this new chapter of the country’s cybersecurity journey.

This represents an important milestone in Antigua and Barbuda’s continued efforts to protect its digital infrastructure and build a safer, more secure digital future.
