Air Quality Index Based on Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) and 10 (PM10) Concentration
Location: Antigua and Barbuda
Air quality category: Unhealthy
Timing: Until later tonight; easing back to moderate levels by tomorrow

Synopsis: The air quality has worsened to unhealthy levels due to particulate matters 2.5 and 10, associated with the twenty-second surge in Saharan Dust for the Country for 2026.
The health risk is medium; mainly sensitive groups should be prepared for some health impacts. Sensitive groups include asthmatics and people with other respiratory issues, allergies, cardiovascular problems and eye and skin irritations.

Air quality index: 151 to 170
Alert Level: IV
Sensitive groups: Everyone may begin experiencing health effects, people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children may experience more serious health effects and are most at risk.

Health implications: Increased aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature death in persons with cardiopulmonary disease and the elderly; increased respiratory effects in the
general population.
Caution: People such as active children and adults, and people with heart or respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit time outdoors and avoid any outdoor activity; everyone else should avoid prolonged exertion.

Also, keep windows and doors closed, as much as possible, and wear a face mask rated to filter out PM 2.5, if you need to go outside.
Consult with your physician for further advice and seek medical attention, if you experience any medical difficulties.
