APUA has taken note of concerns circulating on social media regarding the installation of new streetlights along Friars Hill Road.
The section of Friars Hill Road from the West Indies Oil Company (WIOC) Pond to the roundabout near Government House is supplied by underground electrical infrastructure, a project that was previously communicated through media releases and news coverage.

As a result, the overhead lines and wooden poles within this section are no longer energized and therefore do not pose a safety threat to the public.
While we acknowledge and appreciate the public concern regarding safety, we wish to assure the public that there is no risk associated with the placement of the newly installed streetlights in relation to the existing overhead lines.

Additionally, the removal of the existing wooden poles and overhead lines within this section is already scheduled to be completed before the end of this month.
We appreciate the public’s concern and wish to reassure customers that public safety remains a priority as APUA continues infrastructure upgrades and improvements across the island.
