Dale C. S. Destin – July-Standby is over; it is now August-Lookout-You-Must be prepared for the hurricane season if you have not already done so.

As we move into the heart of the Atlantic hurricane season, 268Weather has released another updated forecast for the 2023 season. With higher confidence, the forecast continues to call for this year’s hurricane season to be above normal with it likely being super hyperactive.

The main factor contributing to this projection is the expected record hot sea surface temperatures (SSTs) across the tropical North Atlantic (TNA) Ocean.
The forecast covers the full season from June to November and is based on data available through July 31, 2023.

The forecast predicts:
- 21 named storms or a range of 16 to 27 (including Arlene, Bret, Cindy and Don)
- 10 hurricanes or a range of 7 to 15
- 5 major hurricanes or a range of 3 to 8
- Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) of 187 or a range of 112 to 290

The ACE is a measure of the total energy generated by all tropical named cyclones during the season, the universal measure of the overall activity of a season.
