Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA): A team from the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency ( CDEMA) and the Regional Security System (RSS) recently took part in series of stakeholder meetings to discuss matters of mutual interests, during a productive four-day visit to France.

The delegation included RSS Executive Director, Rear Admiral Errington Shurland and Regional Maritime Officer, Lieutenant Commander Rolerick Sobers and CDEMA’s Deputy Executive Director Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig and Programme Officer, Mr. Rasheed Pinder.
The team engaged key international partners across the defense, maritime security, disaster management, and scientific research sectors.

Discussions centered around:
• Strengthening operational collaboration with French Forces in the Caribbean
• Enhancing joint efforts to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF)
• Promoting capacity building and technical cooperation with the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA)

• Exploring research partnerships with the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) in collaboration with regional institutions like UWI, CERMES, and CRFM
• Advancing interagency training through programs such as SIREN and technical support from CEDRE on spill preparedness
• Sharing insights on transnational organized crime, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and search and rescue (SAR)

Senior representatives from France’s Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNODC, INTERPOL, and the French Information Fusion Centre (MICA) also participated in strategic dialogues.
The visit reinforced the shared commitment to regional security, maritime governance, and disaster resilience across the Caribbean and the Atlantic.
