New York, 12th June, 2024…The Antigua and Barbuda Mission to the United Nations is proud to extend its heartfelt thanks to the generous and willing partners who played an instrumental role in the success of the 4 th International Conference on Small Island Developing States, SIDS4.

Held at the American University of Antigua in St. George Antigua, from the 27th – 30th May 2024, the conference brought together leaders, experts, and stakeholders from across the globe to address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by small island developing states.

Primarily focused on addressing issues related to sustainable development, climate resilience, and economic growth, SIDS4 would not have been possible without the strong national effort of a number of esteemed partners and ministries of government.

“Your contributions have been vital in facilitating meaningful dialogue and actionable solutions for SIDS communities,” stated Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Walton Webson.

We gratefully acknowledge the following partners for their exceptional support: Government Ministries and Departments: The Governor General’s Office, The Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Information and Information Technology, the Cultural Development Division, the Ministry of Works, National Housing, the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board, CBH, the National Solid Waste and Management Authority, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force, ABS Television, APUA, ONDCP, and the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre

For the support from Antigua and Barbuda’s Telecommunications Services, we wish to recognise Inet, Digicel, Flow and ACT.

Deserving credit must also go to the American University of Antigua, Townhouse Mega Store, Furniture Gallery, Courts, Sagicor Insurance, Cedar Valley Golf Club, Global Ports, Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute, Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association, the media and the many dozens of volunteers who joined this effort of national calling.

The National Coordinator of the Conference, Sheila Roseau also expressed profound gratitude, stating, “The success of the 4th SIDS Conference is a testament to the collaborative national spirit and shared commitment of our partners and supporters.

Their generous support has enabled us to begin a truly transformative movement that will address the critical needs of small island developing states.”

Ambassador Webson further noted that the support of Antiguans and Barbudans played an essential role in guaranteeing the success of the conference, making SIDS4 a truly historic achievement for our small state.

“As we continue to build on the momentum generated by this conference, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda remains dedicated to fostering partnerships and implementing initiatives that support the sustainable development of island nations and the implementation of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS),” he stated.

“The contributions of our partners and volunteers have laid a solid foundation for progress, and we look forward to further opportunities to work together and garner their continued support in our collective journey towards a future filled with possibilities,” Ambassador Webson continued.
