Safety Tips:

  • Your personal safety is always your number one priority.
  • Stay calm, don’t resist and comply with the robber’s instructions and never offer more than what is asked for.
  • If you are confronted by a robber, cooperate. Merchandise and cash can always be replaced, people can’t.
  • Do not talk except to answer the robber’s questions and do not stare directly at the robber.
  • If you are being robbed or attacked try and get a good description of the robber such as any distinguishing marks, accents, height, built, clothing, etc.
  • Get as much information as possible such as a description of the type of weapon used, getaway vehicle and direction of travel. This information will assist the Police in their investigations.
  • Prevent surprises, keep your hands in sight at all times and refrain from making any sudden moves.
  • Pay close attention to everyone entering, exiting or even loitering around your place of business. Some persons may be casing/monitoring your store and may be part of a robbery team.
  • Employees should reduce distractions while they wait for customers to enter the business, while they are in the store or before the customer approaches the cash register.
  • If the robber shows you a gun or claims to have one, always consider it to be loaded and it could cause harm.
  • Greet every person who enters the business in a friendly manner. Personal contact can discourage a would-be criminal.
  • Do not chase or follow the robber. Call 911 and provide the necessary information to the dispatcher.
