According to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), a fire has erupted on the main road leading to the Cooks Sanitary Landfill and Civic Amenity Site.

The government-run agency further stated that the Fire Department has been working tediously to contain the fire as thick black smoke can be seen billowing from the landfill located on the western section of the island.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damages caused were not immediately known. Also, no injuries were reported at the time this information was provided.
