According to reports from the Trinidad and Tobago Weather Centre (TTWC) and the UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC), a strong earthquake struck in the Gulf of Paria at about 1:17 pm today Tuesday 7th December 2021.

Initial reports measured the quake at Magnitude 4.9, Latitude: 12.14N, Longitude: 61.49W and a depth of 10 km, ENE of St. George’s, Grenada.

Initial coordinates for the tremor felt across the southern Caribbean.

UWI SRC has since updated the location and magnitude of today’s earthquake reporting that a magnitude 5.3 quake struck at a very shallow depth of 3 kilometers, southwest of Trinidad and Tobago.

The tremor was reportedly felt by many persons across Trinidad and Tobago and across a few other southern Caribean islands.
