The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) advises that effective August 12 2024, it shall commence a Voter’s Identification Cards Replacement Programme.

ABEC has therefore reversed its earlier decision and advice to the General Public that a re-registration exercise would have commenced in October 2024.

The Commission has met with and held extensive dialogue with all major stakeholders to include all the political parties and the sole Independent Parliamentarian all of whom shared openly their view on legal position being relied upon by the Commission and the measures which the Commission enunciated to ensure a fair and transparent process.

At its regular meeting held on Wednesday 15, May 2024 ABEC decided that is in the best interest of the electoral process to commence the process of the replacement of the expired cards as soon as practicable.

The Commission is aware that there currently over 40,000 residents whose Voter’s Identification Cards have expired.

Public relations sensitization will begin in June, which will outline the full details of the process, through promotional avenues to include media interviews, infomercials, social media posts, Public Service Announcements and flyers.
