Antigua and Barbuda National Park: PRESS RELEASE – Early Morning Fire at Ordnance Bay Contained: National Parks Authority Extends Well Wishes to Occupant of the Vessel

Antigua & Barbuda, Saturday, November 25, 2023: An early morning fire onboard a live aboard vessel which was on anchor at Ordnance Bay, in English Harbour has been successfully contained, thanks to the prompt response and assistance of ABSAR, The Fire Department and the Antigua & Barbuda Coast Guard.

The vessel was unfortunately lost in the incident, and the lone occupant is currently receiving urgent medical attention at the Sir Lester Bird Mount St. John’s Medical Centre.

Mrs. Ann Marie Martin, Parks Commissioner of the National Parks Authority, expressed her deep concern for the occupant and conveyed her sincere wishes for a speedy recovery.

She emphasized the significance of safety and security within English Harbour, stating, “While we closely monitor and investigate the incident at Ordnance Bay in collaboration with relevant authorities, we are committed to learning from it to further enhance the safety, security, and protection of all areas within the Park.”

Mrs. Martin further reassured the public, saying, “We are pleased to report that the fire was contained solely to the vessel in the bay. Throughout the incident, there was no imminent threat to other vessels anchored at Ordnance Bay.”

The National Parks Authority is dedicated to collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure a safe and successful yachting season.
