The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is advising the public that Nissan has announced a major recall in Japan covering the Note, Note Aura and X-Trail due to a software error in the lithium-ion battery controller.

According to Nissan, the recall covers 600,595 vehicles across six body types, manufactured between 12 November 2020 and 6 April 2026. These models are equipped with Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid system, where a gasoline engine generates electricity while an electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery, drives the wheels.

The battery controller plays a crucial role in managing and regulating the flow of energy. The recall affects vehicles of the following models:

The issue is caused by incorrect program logic. Under certain conditions, the system may falsely detect a fault, activate an EV system warning on the instrument cluster, and reduce the traction motor’s output.

In the most serious cases, power to the drive motor may be cut off while the vehicle is moving, potentially leaving it unable to continue.

Nissan’s remedy for the problem is a software reflash. The lithium-ion battery controller in each affected vehicle will be updated with corrected software. This recall repair will be performed free of charge. Affects consumers should contact Nissan for assistance.
