Office of Strategic Communications (STRATCOM): A police motorcycle officer remains hospitalized at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre following a traffic accident that occurred on Sir Sydney Walling Highway on Monday afternoon.

The injured officer has been identified as 23-year-old Te’field Charles, who was on duty at the time of the incident.

The allegations are that around 4:29 p.m. on June 1, a white Honda CR-V motor jeep, driven by a 52-year-old woman of Clarkes Hill, was travelling from north to south on an unnamed by-road near TURF.

It is further alleged that upon reaching the junction with Sir Sydney Walling Highway, the driver proceeded through the intersection and as a result, the vehicle collided with the police motorcycle, which was travelling westward along Sir Sydney Walling Highway.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and the injured officer was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. He sustained a fractured right ankle and bruises to his body. His condition is said to be stable.

The motorcycle sustained extensive damage, while the Honda CR-V received minor damage.

Motorists are reminded to exercise due care and attention while using the nation’s roads. Drivers are urged to obey traffic signs and signals, approach intersections with caution, and ensure it is safe to proceed before entering major roadways. Responsible driving remains essential to preventing collisions and protecting all road users.
