CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has expressed its full support for an ongoing national security initiative aimed at enhancing public safety through the installation of surveillance cameras at strategic locations across the country.

The update was provided to Cabinet by the Hon. Melford Nicholas, Minister responsible for Information Communication Technologies, who advised that the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has commenced the installation of security cameras as part of the Government’s wider efforts to strengthen national security infrastructure and improve crime prevention and detection capabilities.

Minister Nicholas informed Cabinet that the installation programme will continue over the coming months, with over 200 cameras being deployed at key strategic points islandwide to achieve maximum surveillance coverage and operational effectiveness.
Cabinet was advised that the initiative forms part of the Government’s commitment to utilizing modern technology and digital systems to support law enforcement efforts, enhance public security, and create safer communities throughout Antigua and Barbuda.

The expanded surveillance network is expected to assist the police in monitoring criminal activity, improving investigative capabilities, supporting traffic management operations, and strengthening overall emergency response coordination.
Cabinet welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to providing the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda with the technological tools and resources necessary to effectively carry out its mandate of protecting lives and property.

Members also noted that the installation of the cameras represents another important step in the Government’s broader strategy to modernize national security systems and improve public confidence in community safety initiatives.
Cabinet commended the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, the Ministry responsible for ICTs, and all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the programme for their continued efforts to enhance security and public safety across the nation.
