Dale C. S. Destin @268Weather : The latest update to the 268Weather 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast indicates a slight downward adjustment in expected activity; however, the season is now forecast to be near to above normal overall and capable of producing dangerous hurricanes.

The updated forecast now calls for:

  • 15 named storms (down from 16),
  • 6 hurricanes (down from 7),
  • 3 major hurricanes (unchanged),
  • and an Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) index of 124 (down from 138).

The long-term 1991–2020 averages are:

  • 14 named storms,
  • 7 hurricanes,
  • 3 major hurricanes,
  • and ACE of 123.

This means the season is now forecast to be close to climatological averages in overall activity, though still capable of generating impactful storms.
