Very hazardous marine conditions are affecting the region due to rising long-period north-northwest swells.

Timing:

• BVI: Monday evening – Wednesday afternoon

• Anguilla: Monday night – Wednesday dawn

• Barbuda: Tuesday dawn – Wednesday dawn

Expected Conditions:

• Surfs: Over 3.1 m (10+ ft)

• Seas: 2.1–3.4 m (7–11 ft), locally near 4.0 m (13 ft)

• Swell period: 10–14 seconds

Breaking waves may be twice the swell height near shore.

Major Impacts Possible:

• Life-threatening rip currents

• Coastal flooding & beach erosion

• Beach closures

• Dangerous harbour navigation

• Damage to reefs & coastal infrastructure

• Disruptions to marine activities & desalination systems

Safety Actions:

• Do NOT enter the waters of affected coastlines

• Avoid rocky shores, jetties & coastal structures

• Safer bathing mainly along southern & eastern coasts, where lifeguards are present

• Extreme caution still required even in sheltered areas
