Ministry of Works: With road upgrade projects underway nationwide, the Public Works Department is again urging commuters to cooperate with safety measures that protect the traveling public and prevent project delays.

This call comes in response to continued instances of traffic cones being moved or stolen, and of vehicles driving on fresh road surfaces that are still curing or drying.

We ask commuters to “Respect the Cones” and observe the following guidelines:

• Leave traffic cones in place. They are positioned strategically to protect both commuters and road crews, prevent damage to curing concrete or drying asphalt, and ensure timely project completion.

• Stay out of blocked areas. Barricades and cones mark zones that are unsafe for vehicles or pedestrians. Do not remove cones or enter these areas under any circumstances.

• Comply with road crew instructions at all times.

• Remember that newly paved road surfaces require time to cure or dry properly. It is impossible to judge this process accurately by eye.

We sincerely appreciate the public’s cooperation as we continue advancing upgrades to Antigua and Barbuda’s road infrastructure.
