The renovated Community Centre is a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity. After extensive repairs and upgrades, it now better serves the community, as it retains its most critical role as a hurricane shelter.

This renovation delivered more than just a better place of refuge. The enhanced Centre is a gathering place where the community comes together—a space for meetings, celebrations, cultural events, and everyday connections that strengthen bonds.

Since Hurricane Irma devastated 95% of the island in 2017, Barbuda’s journey to full recovery has been a long and challenging work in progress.

We’re grateful for the ongoing support from organizations like UNDP, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the European Union as we play our part in rebuilding critical infrastructure.

Special thanks to the Project Implementation Management Unit within the Ministry of Works for their dedication and excellence in advancing multiple building projects, and forging ahead with ongoing roadworks on our sister isle.

Empowered by a USD 31 million CDB loan and additional government investment, the renovated Community Centre is just one of several major civil works.

Other building projects include:

• Renovated Barbuda Council Administrative Building – Completed

• Construction of the NODS (National Office of Disaster Services) Operations Centre – Completed

• Construction of the Community Multipurpose Centre/Emergency Shelter

We are also constructing miles of resilient concrete roads, enhancing driver comfort and boosting Barbuda’s economic development prospects.
