Following a consultation with local stakeholders in August, the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) partnered with an overseas non-profit humanitarian organization to host a three-day training earlier this month to strengthen the island’s capacity in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

The training focused on topics such as Freshwater Treatment and Water Quality Testing among others. Participants were also taken to several sites around the island that conduct water testing and treatment such as Caribbean Water Treatment, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) Water Testing Lab, the Ivan Rodrigues Reverse Osmosis Plant and Potworks Dam.

Thirty-two individuals from the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS), the Central Board of Health (CBH), the Department of Analytical Services, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross, the National Solid Waste Management Authority and the Department of Environment participated in the training.

The participants also conducted water testing at the Lightfoot Pond.
