The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) hosted the graduation ceremony for Cohort 4 of the Leadership and Development Programme.
The eight-week initiative is a cornerstone of APUA’s succession planning strategy, designed to equip emerging leaders with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to take on greater leadership responsibilities within the organisation.

During the programme, participants engaged in professional development workshops covering areas such as effective leadership; thinking like a leader; HR for non-HR professionals with performance management, planning, and budgeting;
health and safety on the jobsite; resource management including supplies and procurement; understanding labour relations; and the fundamentals of project management.

In addition to this core curriculum, they also benefited from
supplementary training in team building, excellence in customer service, effective communication to resolve and manage conflict, introduction to computers and the
Windows environment and report writing.
Key speakers at the ceremony included Human Resources Manager Mr Rodney Simon, Training and Development Officer Mrs Jacqueline Pyle, and Ms Koren Norton, who was one of the program’s facilitators.

Addressing the graduates, Mr Simon remarked, “This is just the beginning. Leadership is a lifelong journey—one of building
others, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change. The skills you’ve acquired will be the tools in this journey, helping you to navigate challenges, motivate your teams, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the Authority.”

The Leadership and Development Programme forms part of APUA’s ongoing investment in its employees, ensuring that future leaders are well-prepared to navigate the challenges of today’s utility sector while driving innovation and excellence across the organisation.
