Dale C. S. Destin: Drought conditions have returned to Antigua. By the end of December 2024, the three-month rainfall total of 248.9 mm (9.80 in) fell below normal levels, officially placing the island in a moderate meteorological drought.

This drought was primarily driven by a distinctively dry December, which recorded just 41.7 mm (1.64 in) of rainfall, making it the seventh driest December on record since 1928.
Remarkably, December 2024 was also the driest month of the year, a rarity last observed in 2001. Typically, December ranks as the fifth wettest month.

In some areas, the dryness was even more severe. For instance, the V. C. Bird International Airport in Coolidge recorded only 32.6 mm (1.28 in) of rainfall.
This marked the driest December for this part of Antigua in over half a century, dating back to 1969, and the third driest December on record overall.
