ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, March 9, 2026 — Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has launched a formal investigation into reports of threatening behavior directed toward healthcare staff within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

​Hospital management initiated the probe immediately following a formal report of the incident, in accordance with established safety protocols.

​SLBMC maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward violence, threats, or harassment. Healthcare professionals must be permitted to carry out their duties in an environment that is safe, respectful and free from threats, intimidation and harassment.

​The NICU is a highly specialized area where teams support families through emotionally sensitive circumstances. SLBMC remains committed to ensuring this unit and along with all other hospital departments operate as a secure and supportive space for both patients and the professionals entrusted with their care.
