Dale C. S. Destin – Published 11 February 2026 | The 24-hour period ending 8:00 am AST on February 11, 2026 (February 10/11) has officially become the wettest such period on record for that date at V.C. Bird International Airport (VCBIA). The excessive rainfall was caused by a cold front.

A total of 34.4 mm (1.35 inches) of rainfall was recorded during the period. Rainfall records at VCBIA date back to 1962, and in over six decades of data, no previous February 10/11 has recorded as much rainfall in a 24-hour span.

The previous record for February 10/11 was 22.2 mm (0.87 inches), recorded in 1981, 45 years ago. V. C. Bird Sr. was Premier, Antigua and Barbuda was not yet independent, and I was a preteen.
