Strengthening On-the-Ground Capacity Through the CDEMA Regional Response Mechanism.

Through grant funding from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), CDEMA facilitated the deployment of the Barbados Emergency Medical Team (EMT) for two consecutive rotations to support Hurricane Melissa relief efforts.

The field medical facility arrived in Kingston on November 21, followed by 44 EMT personnel from Barbados on November 22.

An additional 16 medical professionals from across the region, including previously deployed BDF officers, have brought the total team to 60 responders.

Working alongside the Engineering Regiment of the Jamaica Defence Force, the EMT is advancing the installation of the field medical hospital in Savanna-la-Mar.

Progress includes site preparation, frame assembly, and internal configuration.

Once completed, the facility will provide critical clinical capacity to support patient care and address surge health needs in the affected parishes.
