The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) Disaster Assistance Programme (CDAP) has been fully activated in response to Hurricane Melissa, which impacted Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as a powerful Category 5 storm.

CARILEC has quickly mobilized its network to coordinate regional support even as we await the full assessment of damages from JPS.

Here’s a snapshot of some of what we’ve being doing behind the scenes:
• CARILEC’s Virtual Emergency Operations Centre (VEOC) is now operational; Daily updates are being shared with Utility Disaster Coordinators across the region.
• CARILEC continues to attend CDEMA briefings to share updates from impacted Caribbean Utilities

• Arrangements are underway with CDEMA, Caribbean Airlines and LIAT Air for charter flights to Jamaica for restoration teams.
• Several CARILEC member utilities have committed to sending teams and equipment to Jamaica to assist with the rebuilding efforts.

As the region continues to monitor the storm’s impact on Bermuda and The Bahamas, CARILEC remains steadfast in its commitment to regional solidarity and mutual aid across our member utilities.
