Dale C. S. Destin: The latest climate bulletins for Antigua and Barbuda are in, and the outlook is concerning: a meteorological drought is likely by the end of August, coinciding with the end of summer.

From a hydrological perspective, some would argue we are already in a drought—with Potworks Dam empty, that’s a fair assessment.

It’s important to remember that droughts come in different forms. Hydrological droughts—defined by significant declines in surface and groundwater levels—are among the most severe.

And while the country’s desalination plants continue to buffer the worst impacts, they also mask the true scale of the crisis.
