Montserrat Ministry of Health & Social Services: Public Health Alert: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Detected on Island. HFMD is a common viral illness in young children. It is usually mild but contagious.

Symptoms include:
• Fever
• Mouth sores (in and around the mouth)
• Rash on hands and feet
Treatment focuses on symptom relief:
• Use paracetamol or ibuprofen for fever/pain
• Keep children well-hydrated
• Offer cold, soft foods (like yogurt or smoothies)
• Avoid spicy/acidic foods
• Allow time to rest at home

If symptoms worsen or signs of dehydration appear, seek medical care immediately.

To reduce the spread:
• Keep sick children at home
• Wash hands often with soap and water
• Daycares/schools: check for symptoms before admitting children
