Dale C. S. Destin: The Caribbean has long benefitted from a strong scientific and operational partnership with the United States in weather, climate, and water services.
From free access to satellite imagery and hurricane forecasts to essential training for our forecasters, this relationship has supported safety, development, and resilience across our island nations.

But now, with shifts in U.S. federal policies, this vital cooperation is at risk — and the potential consequences for the Caribbean are significant.
What’s at Stake — and Why It Matters
The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provides many critical services the Caribbean relies on daily. If these were to be reduced or discontinued, the impacts would be immediate and severe:

- Free access to high-resolution weather models and satellite imagery
- Without these, forecasts become less accurate, weakening early warnings and reducing preparedness for severe weather events.
