Safety Through Education Prevention And Strategy (STEPS) – St. John, Antigua, June 1, 2025: As the Atlantic hurricane season officially begins today, June 1, 2025, STEPS is urging all residents, businesses, and visitors to take proactive steps to prepare for the impacts of potential storms.
Forecasters are predicting an active season, and disaster officials are emphasizing the importance of early preparation to ensure community safety and resilience.

“Preparedness saves lives,” says Anderson Tuitt, founder of STEPS. “We encourage everyone to review their emergency plans, restock their emergency kits, and stay informed as the season progresses.” Remember, it takes just one storm to change the course of our lives.
Mr. Tuitt further stated, “Don’t wait until a storm is approaching; now is the time to prepare before the first warning is issued.” Hurricanes can develop quickly and have devastating impacts, which is why preparation is essential.

Hurricanes pose a serious threat to life, property, and infrastructure, and early preparedness is essential for reducing risk and enhancing community resilience.
Preparedness is a collective responsibility. By taking action now, before a storm poses a threat, we can help safeguard lives and mitigate the impacts on people and communities.

Key Preparedness Steps:
- Make A Plan: Know your evacuation route, designate a family emergency contact, and plan for pets.
- Build An Emergency Kit: Stock up on essentials including water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
- Stay Informed: Sign up for local emergency alerts at and monitor weather updates.
- Secure Your Property: Trim trees, secure outdoor items, and consider insurance to include flood insurance.
The annual season runs from June 1 to November 30.
