Disaster Risk Reduction Week continued on Wednesday, 16th October 2024, with the installation of tsunami educational signs in St. John’s and surrounding areas.

A team consisting of staff from the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) and some members of the Jaycees spent most of the morning putting the signs up in various locations.

These signs were acquired through sponsorship from local businesses and donor organizations.

NODS expresses appreciation to those business owners who gave permission to install the signs on their properties and to the Jaycees for their support in this activity.

Some of locations where the signs have been placed are Pensioners Beach, Yeptons, Redcliffe Quay, Keeling Point, Dredge Bay, Fort James and in the Perry Bay area.

Residents are advised to know the natural warning signs of a tsunami. These are a strong earthquake, the sea withdrawing from the shore and a loud roar coming from the sea. If any of these things occur, individuals should get to higher ground immediately.
