The iguana that caused the power outage on 12.10.24

Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA): The power outage today (12th October 2024 ), was caused by an iguana coming into contact with the top of a breaker at the Cassada Gardens substation, resulting in a short circuit.

This triggered the protection system to isolate the entire substation, impacting approximately 25% of the total load demand. Service to the affected customers has since been fully restored.
