Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) – Senior Programme Officer of Telecommunications at CDEMA, Mr. Courtney King, recently participated in a Barret High Frequency Radio Communications Systems Training in Australia aimed at supporting the improvement, upgrading and standardization of telecommunications of the CDEMA CU and its Participating States.

The last major upgrade of the emergency telecommunications system occurred between 2005-2006 which benefitted CDEMA, its Participating States and the Regional Response Mechanism in the preparedness, response and recovery phases of various hazards.

Reflecting on the value of the training, Mr. King said, “The training has increased my knowledge base specific to the Barrett Communications Systems, providing me with the necessary guidance and support required to successfully complete the implementation of the systems, conduct Training of the Trainers and assistance with the implementation of a regional maintenance plan.”

Support for attendance of this training was provided by the Building the Resilience of the CARIFORUM States to Disaster Risks and Climate Impacts (BRICS) Programme under Activity 1.6 Operational Readiness.
