Orealla Water Ambulance Incident

Ministry of Home Affairs – An Orealla water ambulance tragically caught fire in the Corentyne River this afternoon (Monday, March 11, 2024), shortly after dropping off a patient at Skeldon Hospital.

At the time of the incident, the ambulance was carrying nine passengers, including a Midwife, a part-time worker, and the captain. They were en route back to Orealla from the hospital when the fire erupted.

Fortunately, swift action from a nearby boat ensured the safe rescue of all nine individuals amidst the chaos. Regrettably, the part-time worker sustained injuries.

Authorities have dispatched a team of Police Officers to the site to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage. The safety and well-being of those involved remain paramount, and efforts are underway to provide necessary support and assistance.
