www.bonairecrisis.com | February 29, 2024 – Oil slicks have been discovered in the waters of Sorobon, Lac and Lagun. Unfortunately, this oil has also washed up on the coast.

Stinapa, the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Brigade (BKCN), WEB, Defense and Agriculture Fisheries Livestock (LVV) are working hard to clean up this oil.
The Harbor Master also took samples of the oil. These are sent to the Netherlands to see what exactly is in the oil and how dangerous this oil is for animals and people. Until then, the advice is not to enter the water in this area.

This evening, Governor Oleana decided that the area near Sorobon will reopen on Friday, March 1 from 9 am. After careful consideration and in consultation with local entrepreneurs and experts, it has been decided that the public is welcome again in Sorobon.
Since the oil has not yet completely disappeared from the water, it is strongly advised not to go into the water. There may still be small oil pebbles on the beach.

If you accidentally come into contact with this oil, it must be washed off immediately. The entrepreneurs on Sorobon have water and soap available.
The beach at the lookout tower is still being cleaned. This part is cordoned off and not accessible to visitors.
