Dale C. S. Destin – Published 8 November 2023 | Is the hurricane season over for Antigua and the rest of the Eastern Caribbean? The hurricane season runs until November 30.

However, since Hurricane Tammy exited the area about 15 days ago, no disturbances have formed between Africa and the Caribbean, the place where we normally get tropical cyclones. Is safe to say that it’s a rap on the season?
It is unlikely to be a rap on the season but likely a rap for us; however, I would not bet a lot of money on it, as this has been an unprecedented weather year, with record-breaking heat. There is currently an El Niño event underway in the Pacific Ocean.

Antigua and the rest of the Eastern Caribbean (Puerto Rico to Trinidad) has never been impacted by a named storm (tropical storm or hurricane), in November, during an El Niño event since the record started to be kept in 1950.
Historical data reveals that the region has only been impacted, in November, by tropical cyclones, during La Niña events. There has been a “grand” total of two named storms to have impacted the area, during November, since 1950. One of which impacted Antigua, was the infamous Hurricane Lenny of 1999.
