The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment and the Antigua Barbuda Emergency Medical Services is collaborating with the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda’s Fire Brigade to recertify the medics in the Brigade.

An opening ceremony was held at the Sir Wright F George Police Academy earlier this week to launch the training, which will last a period of two weeks. Calvin Daley, Joanna Otto and Courtney Kellman of the Antigua and Barbuda Emergency Medical Services (ABEMS) will be the instructors at the training.

Participants will be taught a range of topics including Basic life support, EMS safety, Airway Respiratory emergencies, Cardiology, Patient assessment, Bleeding, Head and spine and Shock.

At the end of the two week training, participants will complete 80hrs; theory and practical. In the third week, they will be attached to the ABEMS for one week on ambulance rotation to get hands-on experience.
