National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) – The Met Office has decided not to upgrade the Tropical Cyclone Alert issued earlier today to a Tropical Storm Watch this afternoon. Monitoring will continue and the matter will be examined again closely early tomorrow, at which time, a watch may be required.
The deferral of the Watch is largely due to the further slowing of the forward speed of Tropical Storm Philippe. The Met Office reports that there continue to be higher than usual uncertainties with the forecast track and sustained winds of this system hence we need to stay on guard.
