Dale C. S. Destin – It is now August Lookout You Must be prepared for the hurricane season. We are in the heart of the Atlantic hurricane season and 268Weather has released its last updated forecast for the 2023 season.

The forecast continues to call for this year’s hurricane season to be above normal with the potential for hyperactivity. The main factor contributing to this projection is the ongoing record hot sea surface temperatures (SSTs) across the tropical North Atlantic Ocean.

The forecast covers the full season from June to November and is based on data available through August 29, 2023.

The forecast predicts:

  • 19 named storms or a range of 15 to 24
  • 10 hurricanes or a range of 7 to 13
  • 5 major hurricanes or a range of 3 to 7
  • Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) of 166 or a range of 101 to 253

The ACE is a measure of the total energy generated by all named tropical or subtropical cyclones during the season, the universal measure of the overall activity of a season.

The probabilities associated with the forecast include a 75 percent chance of an above-normal season (ACE greater than 152), a 20 percent chance of a near-normal season (ACE 75 to 152), and a 5 percent chance of a below-normal season (ACE less than 75).
