The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment launched the national STEPS Survey of Antigua and Barbuda on August 23, 2023 at the Sir John E St. Luce Finance and Conference Center.

The survey, which is a Non-Communicable Diseases Risk factor population-based survey is being conducted in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) with funding provided by the Government of Canada.
Antigua steps survey is the first nationally representative survey to collect comprehensive information on NCDs in Antigua and Barbuda. It will provide essential information on key indicators for non-communicable diseases for person’s aged 18-69 years.

In attendance were the honourable Minister of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment- Sir Molwyn Joseph, Acting Permanent Secretary – Dezrie Akez, Acting Chief Medical Officer – Dr. Teri-Ann Joseph, Acting PAHO/WHO Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries- Dr. Prabhjot Singh, PAHO Country Specialist for Antigua and Barbuda- Dr Gemma Cherry, Senior Statistician within the Statistics Division-Rohan Anthony.

The equipment that will be used to carry out the survey, stadiometers, scales, tape measures, cholesterol and glucose monitors with strips, validated blood pressure machines and the tablets for data collection were officially handed over to the Ministry during the launch of the survey.
