Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) – An offer of training courses aimed at improving the skills of Jamaica’s fire fighters in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) was the major talking point when a regional team from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) visited the Jamaica Fire Brigade on July 26th, 2023.

During the meeting, the representatives at the table spoke of the good relations that existed between the JFB, JICA and CDEMA and agreed to continue to build on those relationships in the interest of all parties.

The JFB also expressed an interest in, and learning more, about the CDEMA Safe Schools Project as well as participating in overseas exchange programmes with other international and regional fire departments.

The JFB’s Deputy Commissioner, Warren Malcomn also mentioned that the Jamaica Fire Brigade was in the processed of developing a Marine Division and expanding its overall compliment of firefighters on the island.
