Trafficking In Persons Prevention Unit (TIPPU) – In commemoration of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2023, the Trafficking in Persons (Prevention) Unit teamed up with the Labour Department to produce a Carnival Float.

In addition to raising awareness of Human Trafficking, the float featured Child Labour and Occupational Safety & Health elements.

The float and props were conceived, designed, and built by staff members of the Labour Department and the TIP Unit with the guidance of veteran Mas builder Glenroy (Zeno) Richardson and debuted during the 2023 Carnival Opening Parade on 27th July 2023.

The float featured a colourful and exciting display of information and visual depictions of various types of exploitation, workplace safety gear and a message to the public: “If you see some, say something”.

As it paraded through the streets of St. John’s, the float was supported by more than 100 staff members from across the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Public Safety, Immigration and Labour who carried signs such as “Stop Human Trafficking”, “No Child Labour”, Hard Hat Zone”, Safety First” and more.
