The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation and the Environment in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization recently hosted the Caribbean Health Disasters Coordinators Meeting at the Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa.

The meeting, which took place over a period of three days from May 22-24 focused on global and regional issues, preparedness and risk reduction of health emergencies and disasters in the Caribbean, smart hospital initiatives and resilient hospitals and achievements in health disaster management.

It also focused on the health response in volcanic eruptions, health surveillance, health disaster management priorities in the Caribbean, surveillance during pandemic and epidemic emergencies, health emergency operations centre and the emergency medical teams initiative.

The final day of the workshop focused on enhancing country response to volcanoes, flooding, cholera and hurricane and the establishment of a Caribbean Health Disaster Risk Reduction Committee.
